Avast Decryption Tools - Apocalypse
Avast Decryption Tools: Apocalypse is a reliable application that can help users recover files after being infected with the Apocalypse ransomware strain. Developed by security software company Avast, it uses advanced algorithms to scan all locations on the computer where encrypted files are found and automatically attempts to decrypt them. However, the company warns that users should create backups of their encrypted files to prevent data loss in case anything goes wrong during the decryption process.
The application offers a simple, intuitive user interface and allows users to select locations where the program should look for encrypted files. The list of locations can include local folders, network drives and individual applications. Additionally, users can also opt to create a backup of the decrypted files. The tool can also be run from a USB stick.
Besides Apocalypse, the program can unlock files affected by a few other ransomware variants. For example, it can decrypt files that were infected by the HermeticRansom malware, which targeted several high-profile organizations, including universities and financial institutions, this summer. The utility can also help victims whose computers were infected by the Akira ransomware. Although the Avast Decryption Tool for HermeticRansom is free, it can only help those who were attacked by a known strain of the malware.
The company's experts have previously created a ransomware decryption tool for the CryptoLocker, TeslaCrypt and Troldesh/Shade families. In total, Avast offers free ransomware decryption tools for 21 different variants of the infection. However, prevention remains the best way to avoid paying the demanded ransom.
